Every island in the Canary Islands are different and therefore, their beaches, but Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have got something in commun: how heavenly they look. In this post we will show you the top best beaches in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura so you don't regret not visiting them when you go to one of these islands.
Personal recommendation: please wear sunscreen and a hat. The radiation in the islands is very high and it's easy to get sunburned, especially if your skin is very white. This way you won't ruin your trip with a sunburn!
LANZAROTE
Playa de Famara
I'm not sure I can choose my favorite beach in Lanzarote, but this is definitely the one where I feel the most relaxed. The views are just stunning. Swimming here is only recommended in a small area where you can be watched by the baywatch and this is because the currents are very strong and the waves quite big. This makes it a perfect beach to learn to surf. Anyways, spending some time there is definitely worth it. Very close you have the town of Caleta de Famara, where there is only one road and the rest is sand. It's so interesting to see! I recommend you have lunch or dinner in one of the restaurants in town after spending time on the beach. The local food is so good!
2. Playas de Papagayo
In the Papagayo area, you have a few beaches, as I explain in my post What to see in Lanzarote Part 1. 3 of them are the main ones. Two of them are located just at each side of the restaurant that you will find next to the parking lot. The one on the left is the one I visit the most, as it has much more marine life and I love snorkeling. The one on the right is a bit more chill and has amazing views of Fuerteventura. The color of the sea is an amazing turquoise that will make you fall in love. To access these beaches you will have to pay 3€ for each car you enter with. This money goes to maintain the area, as it's a protected place. If you live in Lanzarote, the access is free.
3. Playa del Jablillo
This beach lives in my heart. It's the one I always visit and that is because of it's turquoise clean water and the abundance of marine life. It's an artificial beach but it's so well done! In this beach you will see a lot of people snorkeling or scuba diving because of what I mentioned before. You can scuba dive there with Native Diving, which is located just in front of the beach. They will rent snorkel equipment as well if you need. The best thing about this beach is that it¡s a closed beach, which makes it have very little waves and the hotel protects from the wind, so the conditions there are usually very good!
4. Caletón Blanco
I don't have any pictures of this place yet, but I will soon. Meanwhile, I leave you a picture of other people. This wonderful place is located in the north of the island. The sand is incredibly white and the water is crystal clear turquoise. It's a perfect place to relax and be alone. This is a small beach, but I bet you will love it!
5. Piscinas naturales de Punta Mujeres
In the Canary Islands, we have a lot of natural pools. In Lanzarote, one of the most famous ones is the ones in Punta Mujeres. It is in the center of the town and has a wonderful greenish-turquoise water. There is a comfortable place to sunbathe and the access is very easy. Totally would recommend you to go!
FUERTEVENTURA
Playa de Sotavento
To access this one, you will have to park near the Meliá Hotel and go down walking. It's quite high, but totally worth it. Don't worry, it's not a dangerous path. I recommend visiting this place when the tide is low and there is no wind as it will be the time you will enjoy the most and get the most out of it. You won't want to spend much time there at a beach that is best for windsurfing and trying to swim there could be dangerous (the windsurf boards could hit you) but don't let it out of your itinerary!
2. Playa del Matorral
This beach is located in the town of Morro Jable. It's a kilometric beach very typical in the island of Fuerteventura. It has a protected area where you can find vegetation and many birds and endemic species from the island. In front of the El Faro Hotel you will see a beautiful lighthouse and turquoise waters. In very few places I've seen water so clean as in here. You will also find a Dune in the area more near to the town center where people slide down through it and have a lot of fun!
3. Playa de el Cotillo
This one is located in the north of the island. It's a smallish beach with sand you will find in the Maldives or the Caribbean. It is absolutely stunning! It's near the town so you can go and have lunch there and just stay enjoying the beach later. It's a place I completely fell in love with.
4. Playa de Corralejo
Corralejo Beach is also located in the north of the island, next to the Corralejo Dunes. The dunes become bigger or smaller depending on the wind and the time of the year. This is a very long beach with amazing color and fantastic views to Lanzarote. you will find a lot of surfing schools there as it is great to learn. There are also areas to have a swim as well.
5. Playa de Cofete
The access to the beach isn't easy: you need to ride a car for an hour on a non-concrete road. When I tell you it's worth it I'm not lying. The difficulty of access to this beach makes it super special and to be almost alone there. Pack food, water and sunscreen and you are good to go. You will be in paradise!
Lastly, I will ask you to please pick up and bring back your garbage when you go back home and not leave anything behind. This place is a paradise, but only if we take care of it. Thank you.
